Valencia CF DI team in action as LaLiga Genuine returns this weekend
The hugely successful LaLiga Genuine Santander initiative holds its latest event this weekend at the Ciudad Deportiva Los Ángeles de San Rafael in Segovia, and the Valencia CF DI team will be participating in the Grupo Deportividad section of the competition from Friday to Sunday. They will be alongside Fundación Atlético de Madrid, Real Oviedo and RCD Mallorca.
Some 16 of the 30 clubs registered with LaLiga Genuine will take part in the weekend's action. The remaining 14 have already had their third phase of the year, on April 6th and 7th at the Ciudad Deportiva Fundación del Rayo Vallecano.
Osvaldo Márquez, the head of VCF DI, said ahead of the weekend that: “We've brought along two flags to this event: The Centenary and the club badge. We've worked hard and grown a lot as a team, on a sporting and -above all- on a human level. We have the intention of giving our all for Valencia CF. I'm sure that this will be enough for us to return home with big smiles on our faces.
The VCF Foundation have worked with the DI team (for persons with intellectual disabilities) since the 2011/12 season. LaLiga Genuine is a pioneering initiative that aims to normalise the practice of football amongst DI teams, and motivate all LaLiga clubs to have a side in the competition. The motto is "The important thing is to participate."
Valencia CF will be the hosts of the fourth and final stage, which takes place at the Ciudad Deportiva from June 14th-16th.
